1.第一个pen虽然是名词,但是你也注意到他前面没有冠词,这是因为这里表现的是pen的"功能,作用",而不是具体的东西,所以用in,就像do something in this way里面的in一个意思.
举个例子I go to bed是我上床睡觉,这里bed表现的是他的"功能,作用",所以前面没有冠词,并非I go to a bed,我到床上面,而是I go to bed,上床睡觉.
write with,with作为介词是(用...,随着...)的意思,所以用write with sth.就是具体地用某种东西来写,这里当然就用with the pen了

其中,except for 是except引申出来的一个词,它所指代的除去的部分和主题不是一个层次的,常作例句的一个句子就是：Your article is quite good this time except for some spelling mistakes.你的文章很好,就是有几处拼写错误.这里的文章和拼写错误不是一个层次上的东西.
