Topic:Some people think that schools should select students according to their academic abilities while others believe that it is better to have students with different abilities study together.Discuss both views and give your own opinion.
The universal education has brought the significant changes to our lives.Yet,a highly-debated issue has arisen as to whether grouping students in terms of academic performance is better than having different students with respective capabilities together or not.While there are certainly valid arguments to the contrary,I personally believe that the benefits of ability grouping far outweigh its drawbacks.
Fist of all,it is an undeniable fact that selecting students according to their academic abilities can motivate potentials.The college entrance examination in China,exactly,is a successful application of selecting students depends their academic capabilities .Specifically,ability grouping makes it possible that teachers can adopt different teaching materials and methods according to different groups .Therefore,children in those classes can receive more specific and useful guidance .Moreover,selecting students who have similar abilities in one group,is beneficial to students’psychological health .Specifically,it can not only prevent the students with highly academic level from being overconfident ,but also make the students with other abilities recognise their value.
On the other hand,having students with different abilities study together lead to the diversity.Let us imagine a class consisting of students who study well,the artistic genius and individuals with specially athletic talents .Obviously ,studying in these kinds of classes,students can fulfill their potentials.Nevertheless,why education authorities still select students mainly according to their academic abilities?Because students with high level of academic abilities can not focus on their studies and the others lack effective guidance .As a matter of fact,it seems only grouping (according to academic and other abilities) can compensate these drawbacks.
In conclusion,I agree that the overall effect of grouping mainly based on academic abilities is positive both in the aspects of knowledge acquisition and psychological development.
