GC–MS was performed with an Agilent
(Avondale,PA,USA) 6890N GC,
equipped with a programmed-temperature
vaporizer (PTV) and an Agilent
7683 autoinjector,coupled to an Agilent
5973 mass-selective detector.MS with
electron-impact (EI) ionization (electron
energy 70 eV) was performed in selected
ion monitoring (SIM) mode.For each
pesticide two or three specific ions were
selected; these ions were sorted into
groups.The dwell time was 10 ms.
Retention times,target ions,qualifier
ions,start times of SIM groups for pesticides
and for the internal standard,and
frequency of data acquisition are listed
in Table 1.This method is referred to as
‘‘method 1,for calibration’’.
SIM,with fewer pesticides,was also
used for real sample analysis; the conditions
used for this method,referred to
as ‘‘method 2,for real samples’’,are
listed in Table 2.
The PTV was operated in solvent-vent
mode; the PTV temperature program
was 40 \2C (0.20 min),400 \2C min\11 to
300 \2C (2.00 min),400 \2C min\11 to
350 \2C (5.00 min).The flow through the
split valve was 50 mL min\11 and the split
valve was closed after 0.2 min.and
opened after 1.75 min.The column oven
temperature program was 60 \2C
(1.75 min),60 \2C min\11 to 150 \2C,
23.8 \2C min\11 to 300 \2C (1.90 min).The
injection volume was 2 lL,and after each
injection the syringe was washed with
MeCN.Helium of purity 5.0 (Linde
Technoplyn,Bratislava,Slovak Republic)
was used as carrier gas in constant flow
mode (1.2 mL min\11); at the initial oven
temperature the columnhead pressure was
234 kPa.Compounds were separated on a15 m · 0.15 mm i.d.(microbore) column
coated with a 0.15-lm film of CP-Sil 8 CB
(5% diphenyl 95% dimethylsiloxane;
Varian,Middelburg,The Netherlands).
The column was connected to a nonpolar
deactivated precolumn,or retention gap
(1 m · 0.32 mm i.d.) by means of a
0.32–0.2 mm press-fit connector (Agilent
Technologies,Basel,Switzerland) and
sealed with polyimide resin (Supelco,
Bellefonte,PA,USA).The precolumn was
used for sample focussing and to increase
the ruggedness of the system by protecting
the separation column from contamination
by matrix coextractants of low volatility.
The retention gap is easily changed
after several injections [5].
